My FroYo Tour of California (Reviews)

Full Disclosure:  I paid for this FroYo with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post.  The opinions are completely my own.

Don’t get me wrong, I love ice cream as much as the next girl.  Chocolate with brownie…yummmmmmmm.  However, sometimes I don’t feel like having that indulgent of a treat in the middle of the day.  Maybe I’m lying to myself when I say that I think Frozen Yogurt is healthier than ice cream, but whatever.

There is also something about not having FroYo options in Madison that makes me want to eat it every day when I have the options.

The first place that I stopped for some delicious yogurt was Tutti Fruitti in the Santa Monica Place Shopping Center.  This is one of the places that has self-serve yogurt and toppings – which I was very excited about! I didn’t want a lot of yogurt so I just had a small serving of  the original tart flavor and a taste of the mango flavor.  I topped it with strawberries, banana and what I thought was mango, but seemed more like maybe apricot.

Unfortunately, my first FroYo in California was not so good.  The yogurt had kind of an icy texture – definitely not what frozen yogurt should be.  That being said, the flavor was ok, and I did like that I could get as much or as little as I wanted with the self-serve.

Taste: B-, the icy texture was not what I think FroYo should be.
Cost: A-, I really enjoy that you can get as much or as little as you want and pay for that amount.

Would I go there again? I don’t think so.  Hopefully I will find another self-serve place that tastes better.

A couple of days later, I finally found myself near a Pinkberry.  Ok, that statement wasn’t accurate.  There had been a couple of Pinkberry’s that I had seen, but I was trying to avoid eating FroYo multiple times a day, so I grudgingly went by without getting anything.  This time I got the original flavor yogurt with strawberries, mango and raspberries.

Pinkberry

Yum, yum! Creamy delicious yogurt, just as I remembered!

Taste: A, the fruit and the yogurt was both delicious
Cost: A-, it isn’t exactly cheap, but it is so good its worth it!

Would I go there again?  Definitely.  In fact, there is a pretty good chance that I will go again on this trip.

While I was wandering around a small area in Los Angeles called “Little Osaka” I stumbled across a FroYo place called Yogurtland.  Admittedly,  I was on my way to a Pinkberry, but I decided to choose this place instead, because it was a different option.

Yogurtland

This was another self-serve type yogurt place.  Luckily, it was much better than the first place that I went.  There were many different flavors that I was excited about.

I ended up choosing some of the mango, fresh strawberry, guava pineapple tart, and original tart.  For toppings, I chose strawberries, mango, and banana.  The original tart is always my favorite, but the fresh strawberry was very good as well.  It definitely tasted fresh and not just like they added strawberry syrup.

Taste: A, definitely delicious and up there as one of my favorites.
Cost: A, One thing that I really like about the self-serve is that you really can get as much as you want, and if you only want a little bit, you only pay for a little bit.

Would  I go there again? Yes, I have a feeling that I will be visiting again before my trip is over.

Rather than going to the same standard FroYo shops every time, I’ve started to search out new places.  I didn’t realize that there are so many different FroYo places here – sometimes right next to each other!  This stop was at Menchies.  Menchies is another weigh your own type place, which I was definitely excited about.

I got a mix of original tart and pomegranate tart yogurt and I topped it with banana and strawberries.

Menchies

It was SO good.  This is definitely up there with my favorites.

I should also point out that the variety of toppings that they have is huge!  It seemed like they had many more options than the other places that I had been.  Lots of sweet options and fruity options.  They even had melted marshmallow!

Taste: A, very, very good.
Cost: A, I thought it was pretty good considering it was by weight.

Would I go there again? Yes. I actually think that I like the weigh your own type of place better because generally I’m not going to a FroYo place for a giant dessert, and this way you can get a little bit of everything without having a ton of food.
