Iron Cupcake Madison: Marshmallow

I few months ago, I heard about an event that was becoming popular in Madison: Iron Cupcake.   The first time I heard of it, the event happened to land on the same day (and time) as the big Packers vs Bears playoff game so I wasn’t able to go. This time, the event landed on a day that I had free!  So, yesterday, a friend and I went to go check it out.

Iron Cupcake is an event hosted at the High Noon Saloon in Madison.  You pay a small cover charge ($7) and then get to try a mini cupcake of all of the bakers involved – this time there were nine of them.  Each time the money collected is donated to a different charity – this time it was donated to the Wisconsin chapter of the Nation MS Society.  Each event also has a theme – this time the theme was marshmallow!

My friend and I planned on getting to the event right when it started.  I have heard in the past that it has sold out!  It was a good thing we got there when we did, because it got crowded fast.  By the time we left, there was definitely no tables left for eating your cupcakes, and the displays were getting empty.

So, the idea of calling it “Iron Cupcake” is kind of a take-off on the Iron Chef series on Food Network.  After trying all of the cupcakes, we got to vote for who we thought was the best tasting, and best display.  It was pretty dark inside (it is a bar after all) but I did take some photos of the different displays.

I wish I could remember what the flavors of all of them are, but unfortunately my brain is a bit sugar overloaded so I can’t remember.  I will tell you though, that the s’mores cupcake was definitely my pick for best tasting and best display. It had graham crackers on the bottom of a chocolate cupcake topped with a marshmallow frosting and a mini s’more! I will definitely be trying to recreate this.

Even though we were only there for about half an hour, it was a fun time!  The small cover charge was definitely  worth it to taste nine different cupcakes.

I don’t know when the next Iron Cupcake event in Madison will be, but I am definitely going to be on the lookout!

How was your weekend?

A good chunk of the rest of my weekend was spent with this Marshmallow……..and his Lillypad…..  🙂
(If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that I’m a little obsessed with this show right now.)
