Restaurant Review: J Watts Barista House

Full Disclosure:  I paid for this meal with my own money and I was in no way reimbursed for this blog post.  The opinions are completely my own.

Ok, ok, so this isn’t exactly a restaurant.  But I feel like a coffee shop is in the same category.  Aaaand, basically, I wanted to tell you about how great this place is. 🙂

While I was visiting Heather in Scotia, we spent a few hours at one of Heather’s favorite coffee shops: J Watts.

J Watts

J Watts is conveniently located within walking distance from Heather’s house – even with the cold weather and icy sidewalks, it was just a quick walk down the road.  I wish I had a coffee shop that close to where I live.

When you walk into J Watts, the atmosphere is like you are going over to someone’s house for coffee.  With the small space they have, they do a good job of making it cozy but not crowded.  The decor is minimal, but appropriate.  The staff is friendly and accommodating.

Did I mention they have free wireless internet?  Yeah, they definitely know how its done.  In case you are wondering how all three of our computers are plugged in to one outlet: its magic!  Just kidding.  Heather was totally prepared and brought an outlet adapter so that we could all be plugged in.  🙂

J Watts is very community oriented.  They are open to suggestions for different kinds of tea, coffee, and treats – when I was there, one of the varieties of tea that they had was actually donated by a customer!  They often have live music, game nights, and trivia.  When we were there, there was quite an eclectic bunch of people the stopped by – 20 somethings to 50 somethings to teenagers.

Even though they just opened in December, I know they are already one of Heather’s favorite places in Scotia, and one of mine too!

Taste: A+, the earl grey tea that I had was delicious – and although I didn’t have any of the treats in the case, they looked good as well.
Cost: A, very comparable to any other local coffee shop that I’ve been to.

Would I go there again? If I lived in Scotia, I would spend lots of time at this coffee shop.  When I visit the area again, I will definitely be back. 🙂
