Top Ten Tuesday: Christmas Music – Classics

One of my favorite things about November and December (and sometimes into January) is that I get to listen to festive holiday music!  I LOVE Christmas music, and if I had my way I would listen to it year round.

For a while I’ve been planning to share with your my top ten Christmas songs.  However, when I went to make my list of 10……it got quite a bit longer than ten. So, what I’ve decided to break the lists up into different categories.

Today we will start with the classics.  By classics I mean songs and singers that my parents and grandparents would call classic.  (sorry Mariah doesn’t make the cut here.  Don’t worry, you WILL see her on a future list! 🙂 ) So here goes!

10) Gene Autry – Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

From one of the most classic Christmas movies ever – this song really just screams Christmas to me.  I remember watching this on VHS when I was little. Aaaah nostalgia…..

9) John Denver and the Muppets – 12 Days of Christmas

I ❤ the Muppets.

8 ) Dean Martin – Let it Snow

Classic.  This is the kind of music  that I expect to hear (and reminds me of) Christmas shopping.

7) Andy Williams – Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Another classic that also reminds me of Christmas shopping.  It also seems to appear in lots of Christmas movies/tv shows etc.

6) Perry Como – Home for the Holidays

Classic.

5) Tchaikovsky – Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker

Another one that is frequently used in movies and tv.

4) Bing Crosby – White Christmas

Another classic.

3) Vince Giuaraldi – Christmas Time is Here (Instrumental)

I probably should just put this whole album on the list.  A Charlie Brown Christmas is one of my all time favorite Christmas movies.  I love it.  So much that I have my own Charlie Brown Christmas Tree! (as well as maaaaany other Charlie Brown items.  🙂 )

2) Nat King Cole – Christmas Song

Another classic.  I’m pretty sure I like every rendition of this song.

1) Frank Sinatra – Christmas Waltz

Looooove this song.  Every time I hear it, I am filled with nostalgia, and happiness.  I most especially love these lyrics:

It’s that time of year
When the world falls in love
Every song you hear
Seems to say
Merry Christmas
May your New Year dreams come true
And this song of mine
In three quarter time
Wishes you and yours
The same thing too

Melts my heart.

That wraps up my “classic” favorites.  What am I missing?
I am always looking for new Christmas songs, so I’d love to hear your suggestions!!

Currently I am trying to get all of my things together.  We leave for Orlando tomorrow!! So excited.  I haven’t yet decided how much/if I am going to blog while we are there.  But I have a feeling it will be similar to what I did while I was in Vegas a couple of months ago.  If nothing else, I’m sure there will be some amazing food posts when we get back.  We are eating in Cinderella Castle after all 🙂

  1. Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree is a classic. I also like A Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives. You should check out Straight No Chaser. They are an a cappella group and have a great song with Christmas Can-Can. Hilarious! And I don’t know if you like Glee or not, but their Christmas album is awesome!

    • Those are good too!

Someone else just told me about Straight No Chaser, definitely need to check them out!

And as for the Glee Album (I LOVE Glee) I am trying my best not to buy it until I see the songs sung on the show, but it is hard with it getting rave reviews from so many people!!

  2. George Winston’s December is one of my favorites, although not technically HOLIDAY, it reminds me of holidays and is wonderful to listen to anytime…

I *LOVE* Vince Guaraldi… we listen to this a lot at our house 😀

  3. I love your list! I may have to make my own (though some would definitely be the same). I can’t go through Christmas without listening to “I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas” but I’m not sure everyone considers that a “classic” Christmas song… 😉

P.S. I bought the Glee Christmas CD, but I’m waiting to listen to it until I see them sing the songs… It’s like torture!!
