Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes

This fabulous recipe comes from Courtney over at Sweet Tooth Sweet Life.  You can find it here.  When I saw them on her blog, I just HAD to make them.

Recently I read a great tip for cupcake making on the YumSugar blog.  In this post, they suggest that, before putting the cupcakes into the oven, you should wipe off the batter that you dripped while filling the cupcakes.  It sounds like such a simple thing, but I never thought to do this before!  I encourage you to do this as well!  A small extra step that makes a huge difference in the clean up!

One thing that Courtney changed from the generic cupcake recipe is that she used applesauce instead of the oil in the recipe.  A simple thing like that can change up a generic recipe.

Here they are after step 1: beautiful golden brown cupcakes

Step 2: Dig hole in cupcake and insert cookie dough

This step I was particularly excited for.  Not only because I have never made filled cupcakes before, but I recently got a fun new gadget that I was excited to use!

This thing is so cool!  It makes them look so nice and professional! It didn’t work perfectly, as far as scooping the cupcake out, but it definitely helped by giving me guidelines of where to scoop.  It definitely made putting the cookie dough inside easier though.

Step 3: Frosting

And the inside:

I think this might be the coolest dessert that I have ever made.

Overall, this was not a hard recipe to make.  It did take a while to make since there were quite a few steps, but they were totally worth it in my opinion.

These cupcakes were really good. Really rich. Sugary sweet.  In fact, they might be too sweet for me.  I think I could have put a lot less cookie dough in and the sugar level would have been better.  Even my husband – who often prefers raw cookie dough to cooked cookies – thought they were too rich.

Ease: B-, they do take a lot of work, but I think it is worth it.  Nothing too hard or complicated, just time and a little bit of skill.
Taste: B, a better cupcake to dough ratio would make them an A.  Delicious.

Would I make these again? Absolutely.  I can’t wait to make other filled cupcakes as well.  They are so much fun!

Have you made filled cupcakes before?
They are SO cool.  I think this might be another thing I make a billion variations of.
Just like the Oreo Balls.

      • Oh right – well that sounds even better. I had visions of a hard piece of biscuit in the middle when you bite in, but it’s not like that at all… I’m going to have to try them! Thanks for the great instructions 🙂
