Yes, folks, it is another variation of the original Oreo Balls.
This time, I used Nutella. Honestly, when I first thought of making variations of these delicious little treats, Nutella was the first thing that came to mind. Some day I will also probably make a peanut butter version…for the Husband, and all of the rest of you peanut butter fiends…not for me.
I crushed up regular Oreo’s for this one. I actually only used about 1/3 of the package – which is what we had left after making Oreo Ice Cream.
Things I learned this time around:
- The Oreo’s need to be crushed pretty small in order to get round, non-crumbly balls. I think I may not have crushed them quite enough so it made getting them into balls a bit tricky. But, that also could have been caused by thing number 2.
- Apparently the refrigerator is not a replacement for a freezer until you have them in balls. Not even thinking about it, I put the Oreo and cream cheese mixture into the refrigerator instead of the freezer to harden before rolling it into balls. When I the Husband went to roll the mix into balls, he said it was more crumbly than usual and attributed that to the fact that I had it in the refrigerator instead of the freezer.
For the melted chocolate, I used about the same ratio as the Mint Oreo Balls: 1.5 cups of semisweet chocolate chips, and about 1/2 cup of Nutella. After they were dipped, I also drizzled melted Nutella on them. It doesn’t look as pretty as the Mint drizzle, but I think its an extra added touch that makes them look even more delicious 🙂
I should mention that just because they seemed crumbly and not as perfect as before, does not mean that they tasted any worse. I’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong with these things.
Ease: A-, a little bit of prep, but nothing too horrible.
Taste: A+, very good. And they look so fancy, anyone would be impressed if you brought these to a gathering 🙂
Would I make these again? For sure.
And now I want to eat some of these, but we don’t have any left. Hmm.
What delicious dessert should I make today?
